Firenze!

Our overnight train was pretty fun. We had dinner in the dining room cart which was pretty nice and then had a sleeper car. Fun experience but since we're catching another train tonight, we have no hotel to nap/shower in. We love Italy so far though. Our train came in pretty early so we walked around a bit, had a cappuccino then went to see David at Academia (somehow we didn't have to pay to get in either which is a plus b/c there isn't much else to see there). Matt changed his mind....now he wants to be a sculptor instead of a painter. From there, we walked down to the Uffizi which had a HUGE line and we decided we'd seen enough art so we went to the Science Museum next door. They have a bunch of Galileo's stuff....telescopes, globes and stuff.....plus they have his middle finger in a jar. haha. They had a room with all old surgical supplies which was pretty cool to see how things have changed.
After that we had some Pizza for lunch then decided to climb the stairs of the Duomo.
All 463 of them!
I thought I was gonna pass out haha, and when Matt got to the top he almost had a heart attack because it's so high up and he's not really a fan of heights. But we're glad we did it, an awesome view of Florence from the top.
We thought that deserved some gelato so we each had a cone, now we're resting at the internet cafe and checking on our comments (we love to get them!)
Our train to Rome is only a few hours and we get there around 7:30PM.
Not sure how much exploring we'll do tonight, but I'm sure there's time for more gelato.
Ciao!

Elise & Matt

Wow, You are both amazing! All this sight-seeing and time for a blog here and there! You'll be so glad that you did this blog to remind you of this whirlwind!
Gram said the sun was finally out. It is about time - now the rain headed this way. The view had to be amazing from the top of the duomo -all those brick roof tiles and church steeples ! It was under construction when I visited. Can't wait to see all your pics!
In a half hour you will be heading to Rome and I am sure more gelato is first on the list! Try the "baci" flavor - yum! Safe travels and keep up the pace!
Love aj2

BTW: Matt, I have scultpure tools, too!!!!!!!!!!

All roads lead to Rome. You have to see St. Peter's (more steps to climb)and the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Museum which closes at noon so do that first. Even if you are not an art lover, the paintings in the chapel are worth the wait. Do you have blisters on your feet yet? Ciao

Wow -- all the great sights you are seeing! All sounds so wonderful - at least it is not too hot - because as you know with Matt's "british skin" he would be
all sunburnt (and whining)!! All this talk of gelato makes me hungry. Just keeping on truckin' and having fun. Love you,
Mom and Gary (meow, meow from the cats).

Hi, you both. Sounds like the trip is going well. Check out Michaelangelo's unfinished work. It's in the same bldg. as David. Some people believe they are complete. I've been printing out your blog for AJ. She's been following your route through europe. Say hello to everyone for me. :-)
